What do we do in Quartzsite??

A beautiful sunset behind the saguaro cacti.
We have been in an area without service for the computer for about a week, so I have been a bit slow getting these posted.  Hope you all enjoy them!
Full moon coming up over the desert.

Cholla cactus, also called Teddy Bear cactus.  We have to be very careful when Fritz is close to these as they stuck on everything that gets near them.

The group in the foreground is the SKP Boomers.  There were 131 rigs out in the desert for 2 weeks.

Potlucks are a common occurance.  These are the judges for our annual chili cook off.

Everyone needs a margarita maker that runs on your cars 12 volt!

Lots of geocaches to be found in Quartzsite.
These are the biggest crystals we have ever seen.
Simba loves to roll around in the warm desert sun.

Four wheel drive excusion, that is Vince 2nd from right.
RV fire safety training.

We also enjoyed a fine dramatic production of "If I Were Not an RV Boomer"!

Lots of interesting sights can be found if you know the right dirt road to explore.

Gretchen cooks pancakes better than she wears glasses!
T-shirt braiding.
Wire wrapping and beading are regular activities for the girls.
Wine tasting.

After 2 weeks with the Boomers we moved to another section of Quartzsite for a Geocache Rally.  Learned a lot about geocaching and had some fun caching games.  Then on up to Lake Havasu for the Winter Blast, Western Pyrotechnic Associations firework show.

The Desert Bar

The Desert Bar is located down 5 miles of dirt road north of Parker on an old mining camp site for the Nellie E mine.  It is completely solar powered, only open on the weekends when the sun is out, it first opened in 1983.  They have a live band, barbeque, lots of old rusting vehicles, a fun atmosphere, and the place has always been packed when we have gone.

This is the little chapel on the grounds.  The inside walls and ceiling are covered with this stamped tin.

Here we are on the bridge that goes from the parking lot into the bar.

Our favorite sign in the parking lot!

Bluegrass in Blythe

We love Bluegrass Festivals, and the one in Blythe, CA is always a great time.  Three days of sitting in the sunshine and listening to great music.  This festival always begins with the skydivers bringing down the American flag and the flags of all the military branches.

For our friends who listen to Bluegrass on Sirius radio, this picture is of Chris Jones and the Night Drivers. Chris is the tall one on the guitar.  Ned Luberecki is the banjo player.  Both are DJs on the Bluegrass station, and their band is great too!

I love a good quilt show and the Bluegrass Quilters show at this festival never disappoints.

This is the best dressed banjo player we have ever seen!

And of course, two more desert sunsets.

Parker, AZ

We spent a cold, windy day driving around Black Meadow Landing above the Parker Dam, looking for donkeys.  They roam around on the roads and the golf courses and are not afraid of the cars or people.

We camped on the banks of the Colorado River.  That's our rig to the left of the palm tree.  There are lots of ducks, coots, and seagulls (yuk) that like to come visit if you are outside having a snack.  Fritz does a good job of chasing them away.

Here is Fritz relaxing after a hard day in the desert.  We are so glad that he is not spoiled!

And another beautiful desert sunset over the Colorado River.

I Think I Got It

After many frustrating attempts on this site, I think it will finally work. Thank you Terry Miller for being my computer doctor and cleaning up the mess I have on it!

So, we began the New Year at Lake Mittry outside of Yuma, AZ with a group of our Boomer friends.

Here we all are - that is our motorhome in the background.

New Year's Day we celebrated with a potluck and Mark & Judies famous "Trash Can Turkey"

Beautiful desert sunsets.
